The Black Victorian Digital Papers

In the year of our Lord 2020 People will become very clear on their directions in this life journey. The year 2020 represents “Perfect Vision”. Just a little something i wanted to share with you.

However on another note. I am working on some new digital papers. I want to focus on creating some very inspirational papers right now so i am working on “The Black Victorian”. The Black Victorian Digital Papers.

I wanted this lil lady to have an overall aura of regal grace so I exposed her collarbones
and gave her dainty hands lace gloves.,

The Victorian era in general was led during Queen Victoria‘s reign (she died in 1901) and defined by English pride and gentile behavior and fashion.

For the Black Victorians, they were first seen in New Britain as early as 1839, long before the much-credited wave of 1948, the “Empire Windrush,” when many of Jamaican descent entered the U.K.

I create art as if I am writing a storyline….Imagination is much needed here.
Therefore While creating, I imagined this lady going to a fancy dinner party on a warm spring day.

Many Black Victorians, regularly participated in the arts, such as the group the Fisk Jubilee Singers and The African Choir and were scholars and entrepreneurs, like Mary Jane Seacole. She was a skilled and educated nurse who built hotel spaces during the Crimea War for injured soldiers.

Other Black Victorians obtained celebrity status, like Sara Forbes Bonetta. She had arrived as a child slave and was adopted by Captain Frederick E. Forbes. In eradicating her African name and identity, she went on to live comfortably with Forbes’ family, even becoming the Goddaughter of Queen Victoria. (She was originally presented to her as a “gift.”) Forbes Bonetta (later married as Davies) is viewed as the ultimate Black Victorian socialite of her day.

The ideal man for me is one who is tall dark and handsome. I like a man I can look up to. A king in my eyes. One who exudes with his presence alone, yet displays the personality of one with the weight of maturity, genteelness and subtle authority.

I will most likely continue creating these images throughout the holiday season…I will post them all as I create them….

Funny How much this artwork resembled my sister and I. She is very sweet and gullible, I am always the stoic one. lol The storyline I imagine….My sister- as she looks upon one she is bedazzled with,”Oh my, look at how handsome he is in his new jacket.” Me-“Yes, but what was the true price of it, and how many will have to pay it for him.”

LOL I think I could write a book just from looking at these papers. Let’s take the cover for instance……….William was a very tall man, he towered over Rebecca like a tree over a small bush. However, one could tell right away that she was the dominate force within their relationship. To see them together was like watching a dance of beautiful coordinated colors flowing in the breezeway. In public appearances, William had a trepidation of nervousness about him that only Rebecca could sooth. Tho short, she made up for height with her enormous and elegant hats. Together they were a delight and a joy to behold.

So I started working on the papers- This is the cover page for my journal.
I have decided to call this collection “The Ebony Letters”

The Ebony Letters Collection

I want this journal to have a vintage old world flair to it. And so I started working on some page designs. I decided to call them the Ebony Letters. As these images just remind me of antique letter writing. I imagine before letters and writing them was most important along with journals. You will be able to find these papers in my etsy downloads when they are released. Here are a few to peak at as i make them.

With these papers I am thinking of a time when writing letters was appreciated. Now a day it seems we just take everything and everyone for granted…I want my work to represent a time of appreciation and gratitude for the simple things in life.

The Storyline Below

The Storyline Below

As the two sisters stood in the window looking out, Rebecca found no pleasure in watching the army of men as they passed in the streets below, but her sister Janice insisted on being there to see the parade and relished every moment of it.

This first one is an A5 design journal. It measures 6 and a half by 4 inches with a 2 and a quarter spine. The cover is thin chipboard covered with the designer papers and my signature corset spine. It has a ribbon closure. This little journal is a lapbook with many pull outs. It also has a removable signature. There are also 2 sewn in signatures, 3 signatures in all. Lots of ephemera, envelopes and tags are in this one.

The Energy of this one is very festive and carefree with a touch of elegant regal peace. I simply love the way it is turning out. What an awesome heirloom, keepsake this one makes!

So I added this vintage gold and black trim to the outside, gives it a very vintage and powerful yet elegant and regal look. OMG I simply love the details of this one, especially the clock and the roses…gives it such presence! The colors of this piece are exquisite and forgive me as my images simply don’t do this piece justice. It is absolutely breathtaking. Of course, i wouldn’t present it if it wasn’t. lol

More lace of course.

The Back

Now all of the pages are in place and ready to hold writing, letters, pockets, tags, little trinkets and memorabilia.

I love creating the lapbook style journals. This one is very versatile and even has a pull out signature.

Omg Look at the richness of those beautiful pages. The colors are simply fabulous darling lol.
